Noveske Rifle Devgru - After photos surfaced of SEALs training in Virginia, people wanted to know about the standard rifles they had. Here's what we found.

Yesterday we posted some great photos of Navy SEALs and SWCCs working with Army Night Stalkers near Virginia Dam Neck. You can see those photos here. It didn't take long for our inbox to fill up with questions about what kind of gun the SEALs from SEAL Team Six, a highly armed MH, were training for. -6 Little Birds and MH-60 Black Hornets. So, we did some research and here's what we found - at least when it comes to the US military and AR-15/M4/M16 type rifles, they are truly unique.

From what we can tell from photos taken by aviation photographer Raven Harris, the rifle mounts are from Novis, the most respected AR-15 maker in Grants Pass, Oregon. Novusk has a reputation bordering on legend in the firefighting community, and it's no surprise that six of SEAL Team's most famous firefighters turned to them to meet some of the team's needs. Between 2007 and 2020, the U.S. Navy awarded multiple contracts worth nearly $4.9 million to Noveske, according to federal acquisition database records. The contracts were awarded through various service offices, including the Crane Division of the Indiana-based Naval Surface Warfare Center, which for several years built a variety of specialized small arms for the Navy's Special Warfare Command.

The complete upper assembly, including rifle, barrel, gas block and tube, guard/rail system, upper receiver, charging handle, forward assist, dust cover and bolt carrier group, is identical to the Novusk 10.5″ Gen III. The shortlist can be found on the website here. Features include a high-quality and engineered belted upper receiver and a Novsk stainless steel barrel, renowned for their extreme accuracy.

A 10.5" barrel length is common for SEALs, especially in a SEAL team's counter-terrorism role with missions conducted in urban areas, ships, and even underground facilities. What are the requirements of the Marine Special Warfare community? ?War receiver with 10.3" barrel. CQBR) also produced the Mk 18. Other units of the United States Special Operations Forces, Marines, and other elements of the Coast Guard later adopted the weapon.

The HK 416 rifle used in the attack on Bin Laden that made the rifle famous used a 10.4" barrel. It's the lower receiver where it changes a bit. Apparently, this rifle does not represent Nevsky's belt design, but rather a more traditional forged receiver. They may still be from Nevsky, but they don't make the common match belt upper-lower receiver kits you see on the market. However, there is no reason why high and false low tickets should be combined. In addition, cell gunners can attach the Novsky to their custom-made, fully assembled lowers, which include a custom trigger and fire control assembly.

However, lower receivers appear to be built with circumferential bolt aids/releases and flared/reinforced trigger guards. The latter is a common feature that makes it easier to accommodate users wearing gloves. The lower comes complete with a Magpul SL-K carbine stock and a Lancer System 30-round magazine, some of which are reliable blue-fire models designed for simulations and loaded with similarly lethal simulation ammunition in mag wells.

The Sandman dead air silencer is attached to the end of a Nevsky stainless steel barrel. The laser pointer/illuminator system on the forward upper guard rail is the L3Harris AN/PEQ-15 Advanced Target Pointer Illuminator Aiming Laser (ATPIAL). On top of the flat receiver is an Aimpoint Micro T2 red dot optic mounted on a Scholar Works lap mount. Other operators see with EOTech XPS holographic sights. In addition, there are subtle differences between gun groups, with vertical seals and INFORCE WML weapon lights attached to certain weapons seals. One even has different stocks, some don't have the strong bolt assist/release, and the original grips are different, including the HK416 and Hogue overcasts. These changes are likely due to the personal preference of the operator, but in general, the primary weapons used by operators are those depicted among SEAL teams.
