Novx Ammo Problems - In recent years, ammunition development has taken place tremendously. The most interesting of these were advances in non-expanding ammunition. These loads are designed to produce good wound potential for personal defense without the manufacturing and performance problems of the hollow point sheath.

Although hollow or expanding bullets have been the standard for personal protection for decades, they are far from perfect. Older pistols may not always feed hollow nose bullets correctly. After all, wide muzzles did not exist when many and even more modern pistols were designed for military use. Bullets can close in the nose after hitting bones or clothing material.

While many JHP advanced design bullets are reliable, there is room in the market for non-expanding bullets. NovX Engagement-Extreme Defense bullets are designed to cut tissue and deflect cuts. This action starts as soon as the bullet touches flesh, while JHP does its main damage only after expansion.

Fluid dynamics is important because the bullet has grooves that create hydraulic pressure after penetration. The Engagement-Extreme Defense projectile is similar to the original ARX, a proprietary design once offered under the Polycase brand. The ball is a mixture of sintered copper and polymer. The manufacturer emphasizes that the bullet damages fluid dynamics, not hydrostatic shock.

Hydrostatic shock is controversial for pistol bullets. The velocity is not considered high enough to cause hydrostatic shock, which is more common with rifle bullets. My tests show that at 1500 fps or more the NovX performs as advertised.

A new change to the NovX loading is the two-piece cartridge slot. An initiative of Shell Shock Technologies, this cartridge case consists of a stainless steel body attached to an aluminum case head that houses the primer. The result is a lightweight but very strong cartridge holder.

Lubrication is also good. The loading is designed to achieve a very high reference velocity for the pistol cartridge. Because copper and polymer are larger in caliber than lead and copper bullets and less dense, the bullet weighs only 65 grains. The 9mm ARX Engagement Extreme Self-Defense load uses a 65-grain polymer copper bullet designed to produce velocities in excess of 1,500 fps.

The advantage of the bullet is that it is self-lubricating, so barrel control is not a concern. Since there is no lead, the bullet's range is not limited indoors. NovX tends to break when it comes into contact with hard surfaces due to its bullet construction.

The standard compression load breaks at 1,575 fps, while the +P load with the same 65-grain bullet tops out at 1,655 fps. Due to the light projectile, there is little difference in felt recoil when loading +P. The standard also includes a cheaper CrossTrainer Competition load and a +P load as a training load. This loading uses a standard round nose bullet without the flutes of an atomic defense charge.

A Crosstainer Competition load costs about the same for 51 rounds as a 26 round Personal Defense load. That's right, 51 and 26 rounds, which is unusual, but in this day and age of high powered guns, an extra round or two is welcome compared to a 20 round personal defense loading box. Thanks to the lightweight aluminum bullet and cartridge case, these loads are lighter than standard Luger 9mm ammunition. The result is a two-ounce weight savings for a 15-round payload.

I have tested NovX loads in several 9mm pistols. The SIG 365 Compact is a new 9mm that is quite light and easy to conceal. I also tried the new load in the Glock 19X pistol. Operation was good and accuracy was excellent. I have shot a 2 inch group at 15 yards from the roadblock with the NovX load.

The NovX burns cleanly, offers little recoil, and is a viable choice for personal defense. It is accurate enough for any personal defense work and the recoil is light. Although not designed for long range use, the load shoots levels at long range and it was fun to shoot more with the load. NovX has something here.

Jan 13, 2023 NovX ammo is very popular right now. Paired with Ruger's ARX ammunition, this ultra-light velocity bullet helps redefine self-defense ammunition. The fast lightweight bullet trend isn't new—Lee Jurras helped pioneer the idea in the 1960s with his SuperVel company in Shelbyville, Indiana. Now the NovX has taken over with its super light and super fast 9mm ammo.

SuperVel's lightweight JHP bullets propelled along at a good clip, which helped establish that a slow, heavy pistol bullet is more effective than a fast, light bullet. There is no clear answer to the question of which is more effective. It really depends on the situation you are in. When the weather is warm and people are dressed lightly, a fast moving JHP can be more effective than winter with its bulky coats. Another scenario opens up when you have to shoot through the barricade. In this case, a slower, heavier bullet can win the day. Here's another argument in favor of slower, heavier bullets... The British have typically used many of their revolvers for slow, heavy .455 percussion bullets. This was explained to me by someone who should know that sometimes it is necessary. In defense of the British use of the large and slower bullet, the example of closing the safe door was given. A slow and steady push shuts it down (a big, slow bullet), while a quick flick of the hand (a quick, lighter JHP) just bounces it off. Where you stand on this is up to you. In our modern age, the trend seems to go both ways, depending on who you buy your ammo from and your particular situation. I've seen heavy, cast or coated bullets sold next to zipped JHPs. But we know which side of the argument NovX falls on.

Novx Ammo Problems

NovX ammo is made differently than conventional lead and copper bullets with brass. The big difference is the bullet. As for what is "normal" (besides your dryer setting), most 9mm cartridges use a 115, 124, or 147 bullet. They can be FMJ, JHP, coated, or lead. NovX 9mm loads use 65 grain bullets made from (the company calls them) polycopper matrix projectiles...no lead. They are said to weigh 40% less than lead and are harder. These bullets are designed to penetrate glass and create massive soft tissue wound cavities. However, they shatter when they come into contact with hardened steel or concrete. This is to reduce the risk of ricochets.

As you can see from this and the photo at the top, the sphere is convex. It's like a Phillips screwdriver with 3 blades. Other companies are loading 4 knot bullets...getting more popular. Here are some of the claimed advantages of the NovX round… 1. It has less recoil than “regular” +P 9mm defensive ammo. (I felt less recoil when I shot it). 2. You can buy cheaper ammo that is the ballistic twin of the corker round. This "cross-training" ammo uses a 65-grain rounded bullet made from the same materials as a self-defense bullet, but is slightly cheaper. Here is a picture of both types…

You will see a two piece construction. Here's another screenshot that covers the case in a bit more detail:

The stainless steel case is an interesting twist. First, it is said to increase the lubricity of brass, which helps round circles. Another nice feature is that you
